What inspired the design vision?
Situated on the captivating West Australian coastline, MYKA’s design is driven by a profound commitment to harmonising with the breathtaking natural surroundings. Our vision for this project is to create a sculptural composition that seamlessly integrates with the coastal environment, offering future residents the opportunity to immerse themselves in the sheer beauty of the shoreline and the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean.
Could you describe the key materials, amenities and features?
The materials selected for this project are chosen not just to complement the tones of the shoreline but also for their durability and ability to withstand coastal elements. The apartment complex is equipped with a range of amenities that cater to the needs and desires of its residents through an understanding of oceanfront living, in particular to and from the beach.
What makes these homes uniquely special?
These homes are uniquely special due to their seamless integration with the coastal environment. This was done through the articulation of the built form, which projects the balcony space outward while still being protected from the coastal conditions and wind. While providing unobstructed views, there is a sense of protection within the enclosure. The sculptural architecture amplifies the allure of the sunset and makes these homes stand out as visual landmarks along the coastline.
In which ways do the interiors harmonise with the exteriors?
The interiors of these homes are carefully designed to complement and harmonise with the exteriors. Soaring windows and open floor-plans allow the outside environment to become an integral part of the interior spaces. The colour palette and design elements within the apartments draw inspiration from the coastal surroundings, creating a sense of unity between the indoor and outdoor spaces. Defined by towering proportions, MYKA boasts generous ceilings up to 3-metres high, with negative ceiling detailing features throughout. Blind pelmets with provisions for electric blinds have also been appointed.
ACOUSTICS
A seven-layered, discontinuous construction wall system achieves an acoustic rating of RW + Ctr 62, far higher than the BCA minimum requirement of RW + Ctr 50. MYKA also features insulated suspended ceilings throughout, with non-resilient fixings to reduce noise transmission between levels.
FLOORING
Direct stick, high-grade engineered timber flooring has been laid upon acoustic underlay throughout the living areas, kitchen and scullery. Large format vitrified porcelain tiles are featured across the balconies and bathrooms, while premium wool loop pile carpets have been laid on thick underlay in the bedrooms.
